The 170-foot oceanographic research vessel Bold Horizon, originally "New Horizon" owned by UCSD, was a working platform for oceanographic cruises by Scripps Institution of Oceanography. It was decommissioned in mid-2015 after CalCOFI 1504NH. Renamed RV Bold Horizon, it is owned and operated by the Endurance Exploration Group/Eclipse Group Inc. and is docked at 10th Ave Marine Terminal, San Diego. CalCOFI 1907BH will sail on RV Bold Horizon in July 2019.

RV Sally Ride is Scripps Institution of Oceanography's newest world ocean class research vessel. Named in honor of the former UCSD faculty member who was the first American female astronaut and the youngest American to fly in space. RV Sally Ride, like AGOR 27 RV Neil Armstrong is an Auxiliary General Oceanographic Research (AGOR) vessel.
CalCOFI 1611SR had the honor of being the first hydrographic fisheries survey to sail on Scripps Institution of Oceanography's newest research vessel in Nov 2016. CalCOFI will conduct two additional 75-station hydrographic fisheries surveys off Southern California on RV Sally Ride in 2017 & 2018.
RV Sally Ride is equipped with a CTD Launch & Recovery System (LARS) with articulating boom and motion-compensated winches..

The ship is owned by the U.S. Navy, will be operated by Scripps Institution of Oceanography, UC San Diego, and will have its home port at the Scripps Nimitz Marine Facility in Point Loma on San Diego Bay.

10th Ave Marine Terminal does not have any long-term parking spaces. Contact the Cruise Leader or Chief Scientist to discuss transportation options such as the San Diego Trolley, UBER, taxi, or having a friend drop you off.

NOAA Ship Reuben Lasker is the fifth in a series of the most technologically advanced fisheries vessels in the world. The Lasker will primarily support fish, marine mammals and turtle surveys off the U.S. west coast and in the eastem tropical Pacific Ocean. The Lasker arrived to its west coast home port San Diego in April 2014. Funding is provided under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.
 
Reuben Lasker is equipped with oceanographic sampling and measurement systems, instrumented trawls, longlines, and plankton nets for direct sampling.  The ship has a dynamic positioning system to steer along a pre-determined trackline and to accurately hold the ship in a fixed position. The ship is also equipped with meteorological data collection systems and has extensive wet and dry labs to provide maximum utilization of every hour at sea. These technologies will dramatically improve the ability to conduct diverse data collection operations as required by its mission.
 
The new vessel is named after the late Dr. Reuben Lasker, who served as the Director of SWFSC's Coastal Fisheries Division and as adjunct professor at Scripps Institution of Oceanography, V.C. San Diego. Dr. Lasker built a renown research group that focused on the recruitment of young fish to the adult population - a topic with implications for fisheries management throughout the world.

RV Roger RevelleRV Roger Revelle is a 274-foot (83 meter) AGOR 24-class research ship operated by the Scripps Institution of Oceanography, a graduate division of the University of California, San Diego. SIO Ship Information Page.

The RV Roger Revelle is the second of three oceanographic ships built by the U.S. Navy for oceanographic institution operations. Construction began in early 1993, launched in April of 1995, and sailed on her maiden voyage from Mississippi to San Diego in July, 1996. The 1996 October CalCOFI cruise, 9610RR, was the first research cruise on RV Roger Revelle.

RV Revelle has a cruising speed of 12 knots and carries 22 crewmembers and 37 scientists.

National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Ship Bell M. Shimada is the fourth in the class of new fisheries survey vessels (FSV) built for NOAA by VT Halter Marine, Inc., in Moss Point, Mississippi. Bell M. Shimada is a state-of-the art research ship capable of conducting a wide variety of fisheries and oceanographic research. Foremost among these capabilities is acoustic quieting technology, which will enable NOAA scientists to monitor fish populations without altering their behavior. Bell M. Shimada supports NOAA’s mission to protect, restore, and manage the use of living marine, coastal, and ocean resources. The research done aboard aids scientists in understanding the California Current Large Marine Ecosystem, a globally significant natural resource stretching from Baja California to British Columbia. Bell M. Shimada is uniquely dedicated to serve the entire West Coast of the United States. The primary objective is to monitor region’s valuable fisheries and protected species including albacore, sharks, salmon, groundfish, sardine, hake, and other coastal pelagic species. The ship also observes weather, conducts oceanographic research and habitat assessments, and surveys marine mammal and bird populations. Bell M. Shimada’s capability to conduct both fishing and oceanographic research is unique among research vessels and a value to its users.

The Ocean Starr provides a broad range of scientific research capabilities with temperature-controlled aquaria and live specimen wells, walk-in freezer, dark room, data processing laboratory, and an underwater observation chamber in the bow and port side for studying fish behavior at sea. The ship’s twin 500-horsepower diesel engines give the ship a 10-knot cruising speed.

Stabbert Maritime, Seattle Wa (http://www.stabbertmaritime.com) has renovated the decomissioned NOAA RV David Starr Jordan and renamed it RV Ocean Starr, operated by Ocean Services, Inc. A research vessel, 171ft long, can accomodate 15 scientists and 10 crew.

NOAA Ship Oscar Dyson was launched at VT Halter Marine, in Pascagoula, Mississippi on October 17, 2003, and was commissioned May 28, 2005 in Kodiak, Alaska. Oscar Dyson is the first of four new fisheries survey ships to be built by NOAA. Christened Oscar Dyson by Mrs. Peggy Dyson-Malson, wife of the late Alaskan fisherman and fisheries industry leader, Oscar Dyson, the ship is one of the most technologically advanced fisheries survey vessels in the world. The ship is homeported in Mr. Dyson's home town of Kodiak, Alaska.

Oscar Dyson supports NOAA's mission to protect, restore and manage the use of living marine, coastal, and ocean resources through ecosystem-based management. Its primary objective is to study and monitor Alaskan pollock and other fisheries in the Bering Sea and Gulf of Alaska. The ship also observes weather, sea state, and other environmental conditions, conducts habitat assessments, and surveys marine mammal and marine bird populations.

frosTIF/V Frosti is a 41m (130ft) Canadian commercial fishing vessel designed for trawling. The F/V Frosti is often used on Spring CalCOFI-Sardine cruise surveying from San Francisco to San Diego (variation of the 113 spring station pattern).

RV Robert Gordon Sproul, named for the 11th president of the University of California (1930-1958), is the smallest oceanographic research vessel in the Scripps Instituition of Oceanography fleet. Built in 1981, the 125ft vessel operates with 5 crew and accomodates 12 scientists.
Robert Gordon Sproul's outstanding contribution during his 28-year administration was the multiple-campus expansion of the University to meet the demands for higher education in widely separated parts of the state, while maintaining one institution governed by one Board of Regents and one President.
